차나무 (Tea Tree)는 도금양과 (Myrtaceae), 백천층속의 다년생 상록교목으로서 열대에서 아열대지역, 연해소택습지에서 생장합니다. 나무형은 직립하여 원추형이고 깃털처럼 가늘고 긴 잎사귀를 갖고있으며 잎선형이 서로 생기고 연한 잎이 황록색을 띠며 성숙할 때 청록색으로 변하고 상생화서의 흰색병이 솔모양을 띠며 노란색 또는 자주색의 꽃이 피게 됩니다. 식물의 높이는 약 3미터~7미터로 성장 속도가 매우 빠르며 호주에서 처음 발견되었기 때문에"호주 티트리"라고도 불린다.
